Greetings Garrett County Democrats!

Summer 2026

Our Club of Proud Garrett County Democrats is marking many decades inaction! Throughout, the Club has actively supported candidates in every general election, raised our profile as Democrats, and brought people of similar minds together to learn, discuss, debate, plan, and socialize. As we look forward, we want be sure our Club builds on these successes, grows membership, takes on new initiatives, and actively represents Garrett County Democrats.

We’re making changes to improve our organization, to reflect the priorities of our members, and to encourage engagement in ways that best suit each member. To help us do so, we’ve added additional voices to our leadership team: Penny Coleman, Sally Blauvelt, Mary Helen Spear, Karin Miller, Lori Richards, and Jerry Pullias. They join Ron Perando, Charlene Pullias, and Elaine Formby on the Club’s Executive Committee.

We want your input, ideas, and suggestions!

⭐ How would you like to be involved the Club’s activities, described below?

⭐ Would you be interested in serving on the Club’s Executive Committee in the future?

⭐ Email Sally Blauvelt at sally.blauvelt@gmail.com, or speak with anyone on the Executive Committee, by September 1st.

The Garrett County Democratic Club has three primary activities: Political

Action, Community Initiatives, and Social Engagement.

Political Action

Now more than ever, our voices and visibility are extremely important — in talking to neighbors, billboards, marches, parades, overpass sign protests, letters to the editor, petitions, commentary on local FB pages, partnering with other similarly-minded organizations, and preparing for the midterms. Share your suggestions on how we can continue to be visible and make an impact, and how you can engage.

Community Initiatives

The Club is active in public service initiatives to help others and to make positive, visible contributions to the local Garrett County community. How can we expand this community work?

CLUB INITIATIVES

o "Seniors on the Move” provides free transportation for seniors to exercise classes and community centers, in partnership with Garrett Transit.

o “Let’s Drive” provides scholarships to local students for drivers education, in partnership with Community Action.

CLUB SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

o “Soup For Seniors” provides meals for seniors; the Club helps support this program each month.

o “Community Works Garrett County” provides opportunities to volunteer for community service projects, along with Club members and other neighbors.

Social Engagement

The Club creates opportunities to get together, socialize, discuss issues, have fun, and get to know each other: We hold every-other-month social hours (aka “Liberal Libations”), an annual potluck picnic, and a December Holiday Party. And of course we help with the R+K Dinner every June (sponsored by the Democratic Central Committee, with Club support). We’d like to build on this, because community with others is empowering and sustaining! Share your suggestions for get-togethers, speakers, and activities.

Thank you for being a proud Garrett County Democrat!
